Sports Report 7-31: Women's Soccer Playoffs Set

On Thursday night the North Country Women’s soccer league regular season ended and the playoff openers are now set.  FC Freeze controlled the play against Edwards-Knox and was victorious 5-1.  Mel Mauer and Rachel Bowdish were both set up by Kamrie Dandrow and scored goals giving Freeze a 2-0 advantage.  Vanessa Bullock scored to open the second half for EK bringing to within one with the score at 2-1.  However the Freeze then scored three straight unanswered goals by Mauer, Paige Harvey, and Abby VanGelton and that was all she wrote.

Ton’s defeated Canton by a score of 3-1.  Jill Tardelli scored on a penalty kick and Peg Brusso scored her second game winning goal of the season.  Tardelli also scored with an assist going to Elisabeth Bennet for Ton’s.  Scoring the lone goal for Canton was Chontelle Wood.

Dow Electric shocked Akwesasne by a lopsided score of 9-1.  Nikki Perkins had a hat trick while Ari Czech and Brooke Enslow added two goals each for Electric.  Dow’s two other goals were scored by Brooke Waite and Taylor Bonnon.  With the win Dow Electric wrapped up the top seed in the play offs.
