Sports Report 7-27: Fishing, Soccer, Golf, and Announcements

Father-Son team Chuck and Chris Roach took over first place in the Northern New York Bassmasters Club season with a second place finish at the tournament staged on the St. Lawrence River out of Waddington on Saturday.  The Roach team weighed in with 16.12 pounds of bass but was second only to Fred Morrill of DeKalb and Jim Morgan of Gouverneur who weighed in with 17.81 pounds of bass.  Brad and Robert Paradis of Ogdensburg took third place with 15.15 pounds of bass. 

In Soccer action the St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union 14-Under squad defeated Hermon-DeKalb 6-0.  The offensive explosion was led by Peyton Lalone who scored 1 goal and notched 3 assists, Zach Ashley scored 2 goals, Natalie Giglio scored 1 goal and had 1 assist, and Hannah Thornhill who had 2 assists.  Jacob Shollette and Will Lanfear each scored goals of their own.  Jacob and Matt Shollette combined for 5 saves and earned a shut-out. 

In golf action at the 13th annual Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Alumni Golf Tournament, Jerry Guimond sank 14 pars for a round of 74 which earned him the Men’s Division Championship.  Megan McNamara edged out Shannon LeFave for the Women’s Divison title. 

And in Ben Cordwell Senior Golf action on Friday there was a three way tie for medalist honors.  Bill Hill, Bob Simpson, and Dick Kline each shot rounds of 42.  Rod Allard recorded Low Net honors at 30.

The SOS (Save Our Schoolhouse) in Star Lake will hold its 5th, ANNUAL
5K FUN RUN/WALK on Sunday August 8th. With a 10:00 am start time, all participants will receive a race shirt and participation medal and plaques will be awarded for all age groups, women and men.  Following the run will be a pie social and fun activities.  The old Star Lake Schoolhouse is located right next to the Star Lake Fire Department on Rt.3; cost is $18.92 for Adults and only $10 for all students.  Proceeds go towards restoring the old schoolhouse.  Registration is from 8:30 am to 10 am at the Schoolhouse.
 

Registration for Tri-Town Youth Football will be Wednesday July 28th at the Tri-Town Arena from 5:30pm to 7pm.  Grade K-6th.  Seaso n begins August 9th.  For more info contact Jerry St. Hilaire at 389-4175. 

Mike Watts, track photograph at Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) and Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. The staff, racing teams, fans and sponsors of MIR would like to express their deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife Jane and sons Mike Jr. and Andy, their family and their many, many friends.
