Sports Report 7-23: Soccer, Softball, Golf, News and Announcement

Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Place is now in sole possession of fist place in the North Country Men’s soccer league after their 4-2 victory over CKON 97 Radio-Fort Brickhouse.  Pepsi saw four different players connect for goals: Ryan Geary, Elijah Finley, Jeremiah Strickland, and Erik Whitcombe.  CKON’s goals were scored by Nathan Pichette and Justin Barkley.

 

Frary’s and Parkway of Canton battled to a 2-2 tie.  Frary’s saw Jordan Spears and Ricky Stevenson score while Mike McDonnell and Brandon Robinson scored for Canton.

 

Potsdam Scoops shut-out Canton by a score of 2-0.  Grant Sharlow and Mark Norman were the scorers for Scoops while Ben Steinberg had four saves for the shut-out.

 

McDuff’s defeated Parishville 3-1.  SUNY Potsdam’s newly anointed head coach Adam Parker scored all three goals for McDuff’s.  Zach Richardson stopped five shots in goal on his way to getting the W.

 

In Women’s softball action Phoenix on the Bay put another notch in the W column with a 9-1 victory over Ogdensburg Bowl.  Ginnelle Morley slugged two doubles and a single while Kristie Farrell, Marybeth Davis and Liza LaRock all singled twice for Phoenix.

 

Duff’s II crushed The Place 16-5.  Kris Williams led the way for Duff’s with a double and two singles while Jaimes Gaines hit a triple and a single and also produced a rare unassisted double-play in the field.  The Place was led by Beth Tombolilo who connected for three singles.

 

Dan Dinneen led the Murray’s Twin Brooks Thursday Night Golf League with a three under par 32.  He birdied the 13th, 14th, and 16th holes during his round.

 

The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team travels to San Jose, Costa Rica, for a
seven-day volleyball tour beginning Aug. 4.

During the visit, the team, which will return to New York on Aug. 10, will
play a trio of Costa Rican teams and practice daily throughout the week.
Potsdam players and coaches will also enjoy tours of local attractions,
outdoor activities, community service and other presentations and
entertainment.
