7-14 Sports Report: Soccer results and Congratulations!

In soccer action Canton 2 held off the St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union by a score of 4-3 in PYSL 14U play Monday night.  Peyton Lalone scored the first goal of the game on a break-away.  Canton followed with two goals giving them the lead at 2-1 which was the score at the end of the first half.  Lalone scored off of a nice pass from max Ahrens tying the game at two goals a piece.  Canton would not be denied as they answered back by scoring two goals within four minutes of each other giving them a 4-2 lead.  With his third goal of the game Lalone brought SLFCU within striking distance putting the score at 4-3.  However the comeback was not to be and Canton escaped with the W intact.

The 29th annual Frederic Remington race will be held Saturday, July 17th as part of the Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival.  The course runs from Heuvelton to Ogdensburg which is approximately 12 miles.  USCA and NYCRA rules will be in effect.  A registration session will be held on Thursday, July 15th from 7 to 9 PM at the Ed Dobinsky Visitors Center.

Finally, in competition that began this spring with over 600,000 boys and girls aged 7-14 only 24 remain in the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run contest which are part of All-Star activities in Anaheim California.  One of the 24 happens to be Hannah Thornhill of Heuvelton who is representing the New York Yankees in the 11-12 year old division.  Hannah will be competing against a girl from Moody, Texas and another from Sedalia, Missouri.  99 Sports congratulates Hannah on her accomplishment and wishes her the best of luck!
