7-3 Sports Report: Playoffs begin, Lisbon and Jones Tire Advance |

The Kiwanis Senior Grasshopper playoffs kicked off with a short-handed Lisbon holding off Howland Pump 6-5 and Jones Tire knocking off The Place. For Lisbon who played with only 8 players Jacob and Joey Pellerin and Donnie Seguin struck out 12 batters combined in the win. Donnie Seguin put the game away with strike-out stranding a runner on 3rd base and the score 6-5. Jacob Pellerin led the Lisbon offense with three singles while Nick Spooner and Ryan Mason each hit two singles of their own. For Howland Pump, Avery Love and Conor Badlam recorded 12 strike-outs of their own. The Pump offense was led by Nathan McCarney who slugged a double and single while Avery Love connected for two doubles. Jones Tire advanced in to the next round of the playoffs by defeating The Place. They await the winner of tonight’s game pitting Ogdensburg Pepsi against Lisbon. Jones tire using the pitcher by committee philosophy to their advantage as Hannah Thornhill, Ben Jacobs, Cole Piercey, and Bobby Rust combined for nine strike-outs. Rust also led the offense by slugging a pair of doubles and adding a triple while Michael Martin crushed a home-run and added a triple. The Place also used the pitcher by committee strategy as Joey Dalton, Jared Barr, and Adam Rickett combined for nine strike-outs. The offense was led by Andrew Layng and Rickett who each singled twice and Jared Barr who exercised his batting eye by walking three times. The 1st annual Morristown 5K Run and Walk will be held Sunday July 4th as a fund-raising event to aid the youth of the village and surrounding areas. All proceeds will be donated to the Morristown Central School to purchase benches and picnic tables for the playground. A youth fun run will begin at 8:30 AM with a distance of 1 mile while runners and walkers of the 5K will start at 9AM at the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department Hall.
