Stephanie O’Brien was the winner of the Half Marathon of the Madrid Bluegrass Ramble. Her Finishing time was 1:31:46. In the Northern New York Bassmasters Club Brad Paradis of Ogdensburg took 5th place in the Pro-Boater Division with a 16.5 pound smallmouth bass anchored by a 4.41 pound smallmouth. In the Non-Boater Divion Robin Reome of Malone placed 5th with a 9.23 pound smallmouth entry. Also in Fishing the first Bassmaster Tournament Series in Massena drew 32 boaters and 32 co-anglers. Rob Eddy and Mike Brandish were tops in a field of 23 teams from Canada and the U.S. last weekend in the 4th Annual Smackdown on the St. Lawrence River out of Massena. The pair had a total of 3 wall-eye for a total weight of 17.02 pounds. Their average of nearly six pounds per fish earned them along 1st place honors a total of $575. At Putt LaMay Field in Glens Falls the Massena Silver and Black fell to Glens Falls in a defensive struggle by a score of 14-7 in Semi-Pro Football action. Mike MacPherson rushed for a touchdown and after the PAT Massena has the lead at the Half 7-3. Glens Falls drew within one after their second FG of the game put the score at 7-6. The tide turned in Glens Falls favor after a 60 yard touchdown throw from Ian Godfrey to John Brennan putting the score at 12-6. Glens Falls engineered a 2 point coversion after the snap on the PAT was botched leaving the score at its final resting place of 14-7. On the Diamond in Kiwanis Jr. Grasshopper action the Heuvelton Amvets split a double affair by being edged out by Source Capital 2-1 and themselves edging out the Grays 4-3. The pitching for the Place was dominant with Kolby Jordan, Noel Robinson, and Richard Oshier combining for 14 K’s. That situation was reversed against the Grays with Amvets pitchers Colin Trathen and Jordan Fisher combining for 18 K’s. Against the Grays, Heuveltons offense was led by Noah Steele who ripped a double and added a single. In Ogdensburg Greenbelt Summer Horseshoe action Ogdensburg Bowl shut out Big Cheese Pizza 9-0 while SH Electric fell to Stiles Gravel and Sand by a score of 8-1. Tru North beat Gardner’s 5-4. Garrison’s defeated Kozy’s Korner 7-2 and Nig’s Tavern blasted Moose 9-0. Moving on to the links, Bob Simpson shot a round of 38 to capture medalist honors at the Ben Cordwell Senior Golf league for the 3rd straight week on Friday. The 32 shot by Ken Kendall took overall low net honors while Dick Kline san the only birdie of the day. Mort Backus and Sons and Worden’s Pub each had -12 weeks taking 1st place in the 7th weeks of the St. Lawrence State Park Men’s Golf League. Mort Backus currently stands second to VFW 36-40.5 in the league standings. Worden’s Pub is 3rd with a 45.5. Jake Herzog was the recipient of the David C. Shea Sportsmanship award and a $500 scholarship at the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club.
