EARTQUAKE DAMAGE MINIMAL, CLARKSON ENGINEER SAYS--Dr.Kerop Janoyan, Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering who has been in major California quakes, said yesterday damage locally from Wednesday's 5.0 magnitude tremblor will be mostly to unsound concrete and brick, and very little here when compared with Ontario and Quebec where the quake was epicentered.

SUNY POTSDAM STUDENT PERISHES FROM SANTA CLARA MISHAP--19-year-old Casey Mc.Hugh of Lake Clear, who played golf on the SUNY Potsdam team, lost his life Thursday afternoon as a result of injuries he received when he was struck in an intersection by a golf cart driven by a Saranac Lake man late Wednesday night. Mc.Hugh was riding a longboard on his back. He was airlifted from Saranac Lake to Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont where he expired. State Police continue to investigate.

STATE LEGISLATURE PASSES BILL TO NAME PORTION OF ROUTE 812 TO LATE TROOPER SNOW--Shawn Snow of Ogdensburg was killed on August of 2008 by electrocution when the ladder of a vintage fire truck struck power lines as he was assisting the driver with a flat tire. Both Snow and the driver were killed.

MASSENA SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT SAYS STAFF CUTS, REALIGNMENTS DONE 'BY THE BOOK'--Roger Clough told a crowd of about 150 packing Thursday's Board of Education meeting changes resulting in the loss of 35 staff cuts due to budget woes were done according to union contract standards. Clough was pounded with close to two hours of negative comments, some from teachers.
