AUBERTINE SAYS PROGRESS MADE ON BUDGET, NORTH COUNTRY INITIATIVES KEPT--State Senator Darrel Aubertine told us last week language preserving Ogdensburg Correctional Facility is in the final spending plan, which he says will be done soon. The Budget was 70 days late last Thursday; the Senate is expected to vote today on an extender bill to keep state government running, or else Governor Paterson has threatened to shut the state down.
TOWN OF POTSDAM HIRES LEGAL COUNSEL TO DEAL WITH SNELL PROPERTY LITIGATION--A State Supreme Court Justice will decide whether the annexation of Town land into the Village for the extension of Village to the property of Jim Snell off Route 56 is appropriate. Councilmember Judy Rich said last week both the Town and Village will be spending a lot of money, and "It makes me sick." Town Attorney Frank Cappello says precedent was set with the Wal-Mart project whereby the Village could negotiate a deal for Snell to contract for the service for a fee. The Town prefers a water district be created; The Village does not extend without annexation, by statute.
SUSPECT SOUGHT IN OGDENSBURG-AREA BREAK-IN/ ASSAULT CASE--20-year-old Eric Miller of Ogdensburg is sought by Sheriff's detectives and deputies for his alleged role in a home invasion early Saturday where he and 22-year-old Sara Herbick of Ogdensburg allegedly broke down the door of a residence off County Route 28 and assaulted the resident and a guest. Herbick was arraigned and jailed on a felony burglary charge, and lesser counts of assault, criminal mischief, and contempt. Anyone with information about Miller is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 379-2222.
