COUNTY LEGISLATURE CANDIDATE ANNOUNCES--Karl Ortmeyer of Potsdam is seeking the Republican and Conservative lines in the race for District 10, against Democrat Pat Turbett. Ortmeyer is best known for his work in Second Amendment rights and shooting sports. He told the St.Lawrence County Conservative Committee Thursday he supports 'lean' government.

FATAL FIRE-MASSENA--58-year-old Steven Goldthwait perished in a blaze at his home, the front apartment at 42 Pine Street. The blaze is still under investigation; Goldthwait was found in the kitchen; it is believed the fire started near the living room couch.

PIERREPONT COUNCIL PASSES CANCER ACTION MODEL RESOLUTION--the Town Council in Pierrepont voted recently to support efforts to add contaminated food supply as risk factor, in a statewide cancer prevention education program. Several other towns and the St.Lawrence County Legislature have also voted in favor of it.
