WPDM CELEBRATES 55TH BIRTHDAY TODAY, CON ELLIOTT HONORED--WPDM 1470 AM opened for business on this date in 1955. Con Elliott, the broadcasting legend who started at WPDM only a few weeks after will be honored this afternoon with a ceremony beginning at 5:30 at Potsdam High School auditorium for his lifelong dedication to local school sports. Con is still involved with sports, attending many games and contributing to advertising although he has been semi-retired for several years.

LEVEL 3 SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED ON FELONY ESCAPE CHARGE--37-year-old Raymond Miller, Jr. of Massena was charged Thursday with Escape related to an incident in early January where he allegedly took off his home monitoring device and fled to Albany. He was caught in Albany that day; he was on monitoring as he awaited court proceedings for allegedly failing to register and offerring a false instrument for filing. Miller is on the state registry for life as the result of a 1996 attempted rape conviction, for having forcible relations with a woman after stabbing her.

PARISHVILLE AM-VETS POST COLLECTION POINT FOR DONATIONS TO ASSIST LOCAL FAMILY WITH SON INJURED IN WAR--23-year-old Marine Corporal Aaron Howell lost both legs and received other injuries when a mortar shell exploded near him on patrol in Afghanistan last week. He is expected to be flown stateside today to continue his treatment. He is the son of David and Grace Howell of Parishville. David works at Evans and White Ace Hardware in Potsdam; a collection box for cards and letters is set up at the store.
