AUBERTINE: NO COMPROMISE ON BUDGET ISSUES--48th Senate District representative Darrel Aubertine said this week eliminating the tax on sugary soda that has met with resistance in both houses, and eliminating park closures, the closure of prisons including Ogdensburg, and trail fund sweeps are items on which he and his colleagues will not bend on, as the Budget is two weeks late today. The entire local delegation is pushing for conference to work out the issues.

NORWOOD-NORFOLK MOURNS LOSS OF TWO STUDENTS IN FIRE--School Superintendent Elizabeth Kirnie says the school will be open today from 10am-1pm for students and their families to grieve and participate in healing activities related to the deaths of 14-year-old Joshua Bean and 15-year-old Dustin Berger who perished earlier this week in a camp blaze off County Route 35. The fire and the deaths remain under investigation.

DEKALB HOME LOST TO FIRE--Investigators say five cats perished in a blaze that did heavy damage to the residence of Ronald Thomas, Sr. on East Dekalb Road Wednesday. A faulty electrical outlet is blamed for starting the fire. The call to Dekalb firefighters came in about 11:20am; trucks were on the scene 'til about 1pm.

SEX OFFENDER FAILS TO PROPERLY REGISTER, JAILED--Sheriff's deputies say 45-year-old Daniel Durham, a 'sexually violent offender' on the state registry, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly failed to report he was living in Dekalb Junction. He has a previous conviction for failure to register making the latest charge a felony. Durham was arraigned and jailed on 1500 dollars bail. Durham was convicted in 1994 on felonies alleging abuse and deviate relations upon a 17-year-old girl.

LOCAL SPONSORS SUPPORT WPBS AUCTION--TJ Toyota of Potsdam has donated a new Toyota Yaris to the auction, the 40th annual fund-raiser for the public TV station in Watertown. The car will be auctioned off live on WPBS April 25th. Canton-Potsdam Hospital is also a local sponsor this year.
