30 CHARGES FOR MASSENA MAN INVOLVED WITH POLICE PURSUIT--Village Police in Massena say 23-year-old Charles Sherman, Jr. allegedly took police on a chase Monday night. Sherman allegedly tore up a lawn in front of a residence on Bayley Road. He was chargd with two counts of felony third degree criminal mischief and a long list of other counts to include reckless driving. Sherman was picked up at 6:30 this morning at his residence on Woodlawn Avenue, and held for arraignment.
GOUVERNEUR TEEN MOTHER CHARGED WITH 30 COUNTS ALLEGING CHILD NEGLECT--19-year-old Mercedes Sanderson allegedly left a 7-month-old boy alone numerous times in their Larche Circle apartment late last year while she went to work in Jefferson County. Last December 17th, she allegedly left the boy in a baby swing alone while she slept. The boy was found in soiled garments in a 50-degree temerature room. Sanderson was arraigned February 11th on 30 counts, 29 misdemeanor child endengerment and one felony reckless endangerment. She is currently on electronic home monitoring.
FARMWORKER IDENTITY NOT FINALIZED--The name of the man killed in a trailer fire on Jones Road in Madrid last week has yet to be firmed up. The immigrant dairyman reportedly gave one name to Mapleview, his employer; and another person's ID card was found in the trailer.
MASSENA OFFICIALS SAY TAXPAYERS CANNOT AFFORD COST OF COUNTY AGREEMENT ON SLAVIN'S PEOPERTY--Village Trustees and Mayor Randy Delosh said Tuesday a deal made with St.Lawrence County to turn over the tax-foreclosed property to the Village for 50-thousand dollars cannot be shouldered, when considering the cost of rehabilitating the site. County Treasurer Bob Mc.Neil says the County doesn't want the responsibility, either.
