99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR THURSDAY, 2/25/10

ONE FARMWORKER DEAD, THREE OTHERS BURNED IN MADRID FIRE--Firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a residence off Jones Road in the Town of Madrid, the property of Mapleview Dairy. The farmworker who perished was believed to have been sleeping in a rear bedroom of the manufactured home, awakened by the fire but overcome by smoke and could not escape. Three other farmworkers in the residence were able to get out, but sustained serious burns treated at area hospitals. The workers are believed to be migrants from Central America employed by Mapleview as milkers. The investigation of the blaze continues.

LISBON WOMAN JAILED AFTER DOMESTIC STABBING--Sheriff's Deputies say 47-year-old Diane Thomas of Route 68 allegedly stabbed her male victim three times early Wednesday at her residence. The man was treated and released from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Thomas was arraigned on a felony count of Second Degree Assault and committed in lieu of 7500 dollars cash bail or 15000 dollars bail bond.

MARIJUANA BUST IN WADDINGTON, TWO AKWESASNE WOMEN JAILED--State Police say the US Border Patrol stopped an SUV on Route 37 driven by 24-year-old Wendy Mc.Donald Tuesday afternoon. A drug-sniffing dog turned up close to 24 pounds of pot. Wendy and 22-year-old Morgan Mc.Donald were arraigned on felony first dgree possession charges and locked up on 100-thousand dollars bail each.
