SCOZZAFAVA: GAY MARRIAGE IS CONSTITUTIONAL, MORAL--Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava told an audience at SUNY Potsdam for its edition of the nationwide 'Standing On The Side Of Love' event Friday she feels allowing gay couples to marry in the same fashion as straight is a matter of equal protection under the law; on moral grounds she says it is fundamentally unfair to discriminate against someone based on whom he-she loves. The pro-gay marriage stance cost Scozzafava the Conservative line on the ballot for the 23rd Congressional District last fall, on which Douglas Hoffman almost won the election.  She says civil union, a compromise position allowing gay couples some privileges related to business matters, is unconstituional, i.e. 'separate but un-equal'.

SUSPECT IN TUPPER ARMED STANDOFF IN CUSTODY--A man wielding a rifle threatening to kill himself and barricading himself in his Park Street, Tupper Lake residence surrendered about 9am Friday, after a scene that started about 11pm Thursday. Nearby residences were evacuated; nobody was hurt. The suspect is receiving psychological and medical care at this time; his name has not been released.

SUNY CANTON AUTOMOTIVE TECH PROGRAM 'WISH LIST' DISCUSSED--Brandon Baldwin, a professor in the program told an audience gathered for the official opening of the renovated lab on campus one item the program would like to have is a high-profile vehicle, like a classic sports car to house its Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, so bio-fuel experiments can be shown off to the public.
