POTSDAM SCHOOL BOARD FACING 2-MILLION-DOLLAR-PLUS DEFICIT--The Board of Education had a lengthy discussion last night over what the tax levy target should be for 2010-2011. Finance Committee Chair James Mc.Guire suggested a hike of 0-2 percent. The 2-million-dollar figure is a combined loss of state aid in the gubernatorial budget, cost estimates, and other revenue projections. Board Member Pat Turbett says total systemic change is necessary; Board Member Mary Ashley-Carroll says when presenting a tax levy hike to the public 'if they don't have the money, they don't have the money.' ALSO FROM THE POTSDAM SCHOOL BOARD LAST NIGHT...changes to the Con Elliott tribute, moving the plaque and dedicating the press box to him have been approved.
NO BAIL FOR ALLEGED THIEF--44-year-old Jon Sawyer, Jr. of Ford St., Ogdensburg was arrested Tuesday on a felony count of Grand Larceny, alleging he stole phones, cameras, and other items from stores around the county. Sheriff's Deputies took him before Potsdam Town Justice James Mason, who sent Sawyer to the lockup until future court dates.
300-THOUSAND DOLLAR POT BUST IN WATERTOWN, HOGANSBURG WOMAN CHARGED--22-year-old Whitney Roundpoint was arrested Monday after police found 75 pounds of pot in her vehicle. Roundpoint posted 5-thousand dollars bail and was released to appear in court later.
