JANUARY WARMER, DRIER THAN USUAL--The average temperature for the month recorded by certified military weather observer Rick O'Hanlon on Sisson Street was 18.1 degrees, over 3 degrees above normal. Total liquid equivalent precipitation was 2.04 inches, 34-hundredths of an inch below normal.
DOG RESCUE EFFORT TODAY IN HANNAWA--A meeting was scheduled for 8:30 at the fire station to work out a strategy for rescuing two dogs staranded on Sugar Island in the Racquette River...one male and one female chocolate laborador retriever missing from their home since January 24th. "Brodie" and "Brandie" are owned by Sean and Jamie Bercume of Hannawa Falls.
CAR-MINIVAN COLLISION NEAR PYRITES INJURES SEVEN PEOPLE; TWO VAN PASSENGERS EJECTED--Canton-based State Police say the minivan driven by 20-year-old Timothy Lamb of Madrid collided with a car at the intersection of Pink School House Road and County Route 25 about 12 Noon Saturday when Lamb apparently failed to see the car driven by 48-year-old Roxanne Vaughn of Russell. The two ejected, a 16-year-old boy and a younger juvenile whose name cannot be released by law were not wearing their seat belts. None of the injuries was reported to be life-threatening. Lamb was ticketed for having an underage back seat passenger not wearing a seat belt.
BIG POT PAYLOAD INTERCEPTED, ST.REGIS FALLS MAN JAILED--122 pounds of marijuana was found in a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Eric Wilson after he was spotted heading toward Snye, Quebec without inspection Thursday night. The car was stopped by Mohawk police on Route 37 and searched with the help of the US Border Patrol. Three hockey bags full of weed were found. Wilson was arraigned on Federal smuggling charges before a US Magistrate in Plattsburgh and held until future court dates.
