FATAL AKWESASNE ACCIDENT BRINGS CHARGES FOR DRIVER--27-year-old Jessica Lazore of the Quebec side of the St.Regis Mohawk Reservation was arrested Friday on a felony count of vehicular manslaughter and an aggravated DWI charge alleging she was drunk behind the wheel when her vehicle struck and killed 21-year-old Tyson Arquiett of Hogansburg on St.Regis Road about 5am. Lazore was arraigned and committed to Franklin County Jail on 25-thousand dollars bail.
GOUVERNEUR WOMAN KILLED IN LERAY CRASH, WATERTOWN WOMAN CHARGED--State Police say 44-year-old Kathleen Deyo was killed when the car in which sh was a front seat passenger was struck by an SUV driven by 39-year-old Bobbie Monaghan of Watertown. Monaghan was charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault, and other charges including DWI. Monaghan was arraigned and jailed on 50-thousand dollars bail. Monaghan has a history of drunken driving.
LAZIO PLEDGES TO CUT STATE WORKFORCE, IF ELECTED--GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio told St.Lawrence County Conservatives in a conference call Monday the state labor force would shrink, at least by attrition to help make budget ends meet. Lazio also pledged to implement pension reform.
ARRESTS MADE IN POTSDAM ASSAULT CASES--Village Police say 36-year-old James Wolfe of Potsdam was arrested Wednesday on a misdemeanor assault charge alleging he broke a woman's jaw by striking her in the face. The victim was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. In a separate case, 29-year-old Travis Nelson of Potsdam allegedly broke another man's nose in an incident New Year's morning. Nelson was also charged with third degree assault. Both men were released on court appearance tickets.
