99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR WEDNESDAY, 1/6/10

TWO ARRESTS MADE IN POTSDAM ATTEMPTED ROBBERY CASE--Potsdam Police arrested 23-year-old Matthew Jarrett of Norfolk and 28-year-old Jared Phillips of Norwood last night on counts of felony attempted robbery, felony conspiracy, and other serious counts alleging they tried to steal a vehicle from the parking lot of a gas station on Maple Street, gave police difficulty when they were caught, and damaged or tried to damage police property. Both men were arraigned and jailed last night...Jarrett on 10-thousand dollars bail; Phillips on 75-hundred dollars bail.

OGDENSBURG ARMED STANDOFF ENDS PEACEFULLY--City Police took a man into custody after he held police at bay for about an hour in the parking lot of the Nice'N Easy on New York Avenue. The suspect fired off a round from an assault rifle in the parking lot before police arrived about 8:40pm Tuesday; there was no robbery and nobody was hurt. State Police, the US Border Patrol, and St.Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies assisted. The suspect was recently released from a substance abuse rehab; his name was not released. Police Chief Richard Polniak did the successful negotiation with the suspect.

FORMER CANTON-POTSDAM HOSPITAL PSYCHIATRIST WANTED FOR DRUG CHARGES ARRESTED--Dr. Ramon Ravelo, 51 turned himself in Tuesday to Potsdam Police and was arrested on counts of felony drug sale, misdemeanor drug possession, and felony falsification of business records alleging illegal drug dealings while he was employed at the hospital's substance abuse treatment unit from January of 2008 to this past November. He is no longer employed by CPH. Ravelo was arraigned and released to probation supervision until future court dates.
