POTSDAM MAN JAILED FOR ALLEGED PARKING LOT RUCKUS--Potsdam Police arrested 22-year-old Zachary Merrick Friday night after he allegedly tried to strike other people with his vehicle in the shopping plaza parking lot off May Road. Merrick was found in the parking lot of Meadow East Apartment Community, after a suspect vehicle was seen stuck in the mud. The vehicle contained alcohol containers and a marijuana pipe. Merrick allegedly had a BAC of .28%--over three times the legal limit. He was charged with Felony Reckless Endangerment, Aggravated DWI, and many other counts. Merrick was arraigned and jailed on 1000 dollars cash bail or 2000 dollars bail bond.

CRIMINAL CHARGES UNLIKELY FROM CRASH THAT KILLED SUNY POTSDAM STUDENT--State Police Investigators say alcohol and drugs were not factors in a Route 30 vehicle crash last Tuesday that claimed the life of 21-year-old Tyrell Spencer of Uniondale. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Erica Romaniello of Selden was still hospitalized at Fletcher-Allen Health care in Burlington, VT as of Friday. A second passenger, Jean Carroll of Islip Terrace was released from AMC Saranac Lake.

MADRID BRIDGE RE-OPENS--The Route 310 bridge bisecting the township was reopened to traffic about 3pm Friday, after an expidited effort by the State DOT. The bridge closed last year because of large cracks in the arches underneath. Fury from town residents after they learned the closed bridge would not be reopened until late next year got the DOT moving faster.
