COUNTY LEGISLATORS KEEP RETIREE MEDICARE PART B REIMBURSEMENT CHECKS--The St.Lawrence County Legislature voted unanimously in committee Monday to shoot down a resolution that would have ended the incentive paid to employees who have retired 1985 and later choosing to make Part B their primary coverage. The county pays about 400-thousand dollars a year on the checks; the cost is expected to go up to 500-thousand in 2012. Legislators agreed to look at denying the incentive to future retirees.

HOFFMAN AGREES TO PARTICIPATE IN TV DEBATE--Conservative Congressional Candidate Douglas Hoffman announced yesterday he will participate in the debate with candidates William Owens and Dede Scozzafava to be taped in Syracuse October 29th. The debate will air on WWTI, Channel 50 and in Syracuse November 1st at 7pm.

ASSAULT VICTIM WAS CARRYING A LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH--A Courier-Observer report today says Paul Mattott was assaulted with what appeared to be a 2x4 last Friday by a group of three young males Friday evening as Mattott was walking home from the tattoo parlor where he works. Mattott reportedly had 1300 dollars in cash on his person. His wallet and laptop computer he was carrying were not taken. Anyone with information is asked to call Police at 265-2121.

17 BIRDS AND A DOG PERISH IN EDWARDS FIRE; 4 PEOPLE HOMELESS--Trucks rolled to the River Road residence of Matt Conlin, Amy Chapin and two other people about 3pm yesterday. The residence was already enveloped in flames by the time firefighters arrived. The loss was listed as total, and insured. The Red Cross was notified to assist.
