LOCAL RED CROSS CHAPTER 'DESPERATE' FOR VOLUNTEERS--Potsdam Red Cross Office Director Olga Grant told 99 News with the overall decline nationwide in volunteerism and the sluggish economy, the need has become urgent for people to help with disaster assitance, blood drives, and other services such as emergency communications to those in the military. 53 families, including 179 people in total have been given disaster aid within the past year.
MALONE BAR FIGHT BRINGS TWO FELONY ARRESTS--A 30-year-old male was struck in the face with a beer bottle, then stabbed in the arm after the bottle broke during an altercation at Kyna's Different Pub on Route 11B early Saturday morning. 26-year-old Joshua Donais of Whippleville and 28-year-old Christopher Silva of Malone were both charged with felony assault; Donais with felony weapon possession and Silva for misdemeanor weappn possession. Both men were arraigned and jailed; Donais on 15-thousand dollars cash bail; Silva on 5-thousand dollars cash bail.
CONVICTED PEDOPHILE RIGGED ASSETS TO AVOID PAYING DAMAGES, SUIT CLAIMS--The Watertown Daily Times quotes court documents as saying Steven Kotzen, a former State Police Investigator convicted of molesting young boys, allegedly sold off a house to alter his assets, in order to avert payments on a million-dollar civil judgetment in favor of the victims. No payments have been made since the award was made in late 2007.
