CLARKSON PROF SAYS SUPREME COURT CASE MAKES BIO-FUEL BREAKTHROUGH POSSIBLE--Dr. Rick Welsh says the 1980 case Diamond v. Chakrabarty, that opened the door for patents on man-made micro-organisms to be bred with plants to bring out specific traits, has a huge impact on agriculture. Once researchers find a way to allow entire corn and soybean plants to be used for their sugars and oils, the bio-fuel industry will boom. The discussion of the court case was part of a Constitution Day discussion Tuesday.

RETIRED OGDENSBURG COP PART OF DRUG ROUNDUP--74-year-old David LaRose, Sr. of Lafayette St. was arrested early Wednesday along with about 15 others connected with alleged sales of heroin, oxycodone, and other substances. LaRose allegedly sold oxycodone to a police informant in December of last year.

SEVERE BEATING OF MALONE YOUTH PROBED--Village Police say an 11-year-old boy was pounded repeatedly with a 2x2 wielded by an older boy in an alley off Pearl and Main Streets Tuesday. Police say the youth was treated at Alice Hyde Medical Center; his mother told reporters numerous bystanders watched and did nothing.

NORWOOD BURGLARY SUSPECT TAKES POLICE ON CHASE, CAUGHT--19-year-old Lucas Tebo was arrested on numerous felony and misdemeanor counts after he allegedly ran from Sheriff's investigators, the US Border Patrol, Customs agents, and State Police when Detectives tried to pick him up in connection with a 13-thousand-dollar burglary and theft case. Tebo was found in the attic of a Norwood residence, apprehended, arraigned and jailed on 5-thousand dollars cash bail or 10-thousand dollars bail bond.

MASSENA TRUSTEES WANT FORMER KROC CENTER PARCEL BACK, WILL PAY BACK SALE PRICE--The board agreed Tuesday to ask for the parcel on Water Street to be returned to the Village, as the Salvation Army backed out on the Kroc Center deal because of lagging community financial support. Village Attorney Michelle Holmes Ladoceur reminded the board the parcel was not given to the Salvation Army gratis; municipal property has to be sold at fair market value, which in this case was about 23-thousand dollars. Trustees agreed to pay back the money.
