DRAG RACING, RAMP ADDED TO NORWOOD LAKE REGATTA--Event Chair Jim Mc.Faddin told us the aquatic snowmobile racing on the pond will have several more participants than last year; word about the event on the watercross circuit has been positive. The event switched from powerboats to watercross after several years of bad weather took away much of the hydroplane schedule. This year's regatta will be August 29th and 30th

'MA' THERIAULT TO SERVE 8 YEARS IN PRISON--56-year-old Jackaleen Theriault, the ringleader of a family pot-smuggling ring based in North Bangor that moved millions of dollars worth of high-grade Canadian cannabis through Franklin County to New York City and Albany, was sentenced Thursday in Federal Court to 97 months behind bars and a $15-thousand dollar fine. Theriault's two sons were also involved; one awating sentencing for conspiracy to distribute and the other sentenced to time served for helping her mother make the deliveries.

BIG BUCKS FOR CLARKSON MILITARY RESEARCH PROJECT--The University has been awarded 1.5 million dollars in defense funding to develop particle compounds that would be used in military communications devices. ALSO RELATED TO THE LOCAL COLLEGES--Both Clarkson and St.Lawrence University move up a few points in the recently-published US News and World Report rankings of the nation's best colleges.

GOP SAYS NO TO HOFFMAN DEBATE CHALLENGE--Conservative 23rd Congressional District Candidate Douglas Hoffman issued a challenge to debate Republican Candidate Dede Scozzafava in an attempt to gain favor with Republicans and hopefully gain their line in the race for the seat. Hoffman calls Scozzafava a "liberal, plain and simple." The GOP rejected the challenge, saying Hoffman has neither the character or experience necessary, nor does he have the support.
