99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR WEDNESDAY, 8/19/09

NO ST.MARY'S FESTIVAL THIS YEAR--Potsdam Recreation Director Tim Carey told Village Trustees Monday the longtime festival that raised money primarily for St.Mary's School but some for the Church will not be running this year, as evidenced by not renting out recreation department facilities. The festival moved from the school grounds on Lawrence Avenue to Pine Street Arena-Sandstoner Park after the school closed a few years ago.

AUBERTINE:ENERGY STORAGE GOOD IDEA--State Senator Darrel Aubertine, Chair of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee told those gathered for a public hearing at SUNY Canton Tuesday for the Draft State Energy Plan a concept that has been around for generations may help today. He says farmers stored water to get through hard times, and power storage that has been tried at hydro plants will help to do the same thing.

UNION EMBEZZLER DOES NO JAIL TIME--51-year-old Norma Fanning, the former Treasurer of USW Local 503 who admitted to forging a report to glean thousands of dollars in cash, was sentenced this week to probation, community service, and credit counseling. The Courier-Observer says she has already returned the money.
