POTSDAM SCHOOL DISTRICT COULD LOSE $234,000 IN TAX REVENUE; RESERVE TO BE CREATED--The Finance Committee of the Board of Education agreed yesterday to send to the full board a resolution setting up a Tax Certiorari Reserve in the event the Town of Potsdam loses Article VII challenges on the assessments for Verizon, Lowe's, the former Potsdam Police Station, and possible Wal-Mart and Reliant Energy. Superintendent Pat Brady says the school district should have a place at the table during the challenge process like it had in past years.
FELONY CHARGE FILED IN CAR-BUGGY CRASH--State Police in Ogdensburg say 53-year-old Wallace Mitchell of Rensselaer St. in Heuvelton was allegedly driving drunk when he drove his car into the back of a buggy on County Route 10 in Oswegatchie. A passenger, an 18-year-old male received a severe facial injury. Mitchell was charged with Vehicular Assault, DWI. and other counts, arraigned and jailed on 5-thousand dollars cash bail or 10-thousand dollars bail bond.
PECK:NO GAS PIPELINE MONEY UNLESS GOUVERNEUR GAS LINE PROJECT MOVES--Gouverneur-based St.Lawrence County Legislator Don Peck said in Finance Committee last week St.Lawrence Gas should pursue economic development funds to get its gas line on Route 11 South under the railroad tracks to serve several businesses and residents who have requested service, before he can give his blessing for a proposed $450-thousand dollars in county funding for a pipeline starting in the Massena area running east.
