HERMON VILLAGE WINS 2009 'TASTY TUMBLER,' WATER TASTES BEST IN COUNTY--The Hermon Village water came out on top after a tasting contest in Canton Monday. Passers-by at the Human Services Complex on Route 310 were asked which one of five samples tasted best...The City of Ogdensburg, Village of Canton, Village of Norwood, and the Village of Heuvelton participated. Hermon now goes on to regional competition and the winner of that goes to the New York State Fair.
VILLAGE OF POTSDAM PREPARING FOR LAWSUIT--Plaintiff Jed Engels has filed civil rights litigation. Trustees were told Monday the Village Attorney suggests it obtain specuial counsel for the suit, and hear it Federally. Trustees said the suit is 'frivolous.' Trustee George Regan says the Village should try to the get the money it spends back.
'PORNO PASTOR' LEVEL 1 OFFENDER--Merton Parks, the former Oswegatchie Baptist pastor who admitted to downloading child pornography, was found by St.Lawrence County Judge Jerome Richards Monday to be a low-risk sex offender, based on the lack of priors, that the children were not harmed him physically, and thet he's doing well in Probation.
CANTON STABBING CONVICTS SENTENCED TO STATE TIME--20-year-old Darryl Tucker, 19-year-old Rudy Dorfeuille, and 18-year-old Jevaugh Francis, convicted of felony assault for the stabbing of Matthew Rivera near the SUNY Canton foot bridge last October, were all sentenced Monday to serve in state prison...Tucker and Dorfeuille 12 years each and Francis 3 years. Johnson Newspapers reports Francis was determined to be the least culpable of the three.
TRI-LAKES CHECK FRAUD CASE HAS LOCAL TIE--48-year-old Jeffrey Sovie of Waddington was arrested Friday on a felony count of scheme to defraud, alleging he floated numerous bouncers off a closed account at a motel, grocery, drug stores, and gas stations in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and Tupper Lake. He was arraigned and committed to Essex County Jail on 5-thousand dollars cash bail or 10-thousand dollars bail bond.
