DEVELOPERS HOPEFUL 'UPSTATE BLUEPRINT' CAN BE USED IN NORTH COUNTRY--Potsdam Planning and Development Director Fred Hanss told the Empire Zone Administrative Board this week the 120-million-dollar funding pool can pay for up to 20 percent of a project, with a maximum of 5 million dollars. Hanss says Empire State Development has high expectations for the money; job projections must be met or the money must be paid back whole or in part.
WADDINGTON BAR FIGHT BRINGS ARREST--State Police arrested 32-year-old Nathan Rapin of Waddington after a brawl Wednesday night at Mac's Tavern. The victim reportedly received a bite wound and swollen eye. Rapin was charged with misdemeanor, Third Degree Assault and released on court appearance ticket.
MAROUN: RIGHT-WING CANDIDATE HAS ADVANTAGE IN 23RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT--Paul Maroun of Tupper Lake, speaking to the St.Lawrence County Conservative Party Committee this week seeking its endorsement, said the political mix throughout the 11 counties favors the Republican-Conservative candidate. He says the Democratic votes John Mc.Hugh has won in the past will stick with the right-leaning candidate. On current topics, Maroun says the acid rain study Mc.Hugh put in climate control legislation is well-intentioned but not fiscally sound.
