Route 56 Fatality--State Police Press Release |

The New York State Police in Canton investigated a 2 car fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m., on June 20, 2009, on State Route 56 in the town of Potsdam. JOHN C. PURVIS, age 56, Norwood, N.Y., was operating a 2004 Toyota Prius northbound when, for unknown reasons, he entered the southbound lane striking a 2000 Plymouth Neon being operated by LORI A. GRANT, age 27, Norwood, N.Y., head on. Mr. PURVIS was pronounced deceased at the scene by St. Lawrence County Coroner JUNE WOOD. Mrs. GRANT and 3 passengers, DAYLE L. YANDOH, age 23, Norfolk, N.Y., JESSICA L. MURRAY, age 21, Norwood, N.Y., and RACHEL A. LAPOINT, age 23, Norwood, N.Y., were transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for initial treatment of their injuries. An autopsy is to be scheduled for PURVIS at a later date. The investigation is continuing by the Canton Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit.
