Norwood-Norfolk Falls In Final At Bat To Ticonderoga

A heart breaking end to the Flyer baseball season came down in Plattsburgh when the Sentinels drove in the game wining run in the bottom of the seventh to complete a big comeback in the Class C Tourney.

Anthony Barnao smacked a single to right field to score Todd Carr from second to complete a two run rally to advance to the State Quarterfinals.  Norwood-Norfolk jumped out to a 5-0 lead with one in the first and four more in the third.  Par Durant singled home Adam Stone wirh with two outs in the first as TI starter Nate Laundree fell into a big hole in the third walking in a run and then balking in a run before an error and fielder's choice by Mike Carbone scored two more to give the Flyers a 5-0 lead. 

The Sentinel rally began in the bottom of the third with a walk, single and two straight erros that scored two runs before Tyler Bush singled in the third off Kirk Colbert to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the fourth a suicide squeeze with the bases loaded scored Laundree from third as the play continued Brian Austin kept running going for home to tie the game but was pegged out at home to complete a 1-3-2 double play. 

Ticonderoga completed the comeback as Barnao single and scored when a Robert teRiele grounde ball was fielded at third and thrown away allowing Barnao to score from third to tie the game at 5-5.  N-N however regained the lead back when Adam Stone drove home Mike Carbone with a single to left in the top of the sixth.  After Nick Belile was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs a gorund out forced the third out leaving the bases loaded for the Flyers in the sixth. 

Still down one run going into the bottom of the seventh, lead off hitter Steven Lenhart was hit by the ptich, stole second, and scored on a Todd Carr double to tie the game at 6-6.  Then Barnao stroked a single to right field scoring Carr from second to end the ball game.  

Carr and Barnao each had two hits, RBI, and double in the win as Robert teRiele pitched three inings of relief for the win striking out seven, walking three and allowing one run on one hit. 

For N-N, Pat Durant went 2 for 3 with an RBI, run, and double.  Adam Stone 2 for 4 with an RBI, run, and double.  Kirk Colbert started going three plus in a no decision allowing four runs on six hits, walking four, and striking out one.

NYS CLASS B BASEBALL FIRST ROUND

SARATOGA CATHOLIC 9, POTSDAM 3

A middle game rally  was not enough for the Potsdam Sandstoners who fall in the first round of the Class B Tournament to the Saints. 

Afrer tying the game up at 3-3 in the fourth inning, Potsdam gave up three unearned runs in the fifth and were unalbe to get the bats going the rest of the way.  Potsdam Chris Reece tied the game up in both the first and fourth innings with an RBI singles as John Coleman singled and scored on the Reece hit in the first and Ryan Arno came around to score on a Reece infield single to tie the game at three.

Seth Hinman also came around to score in the third on a Paul Buchanan hit as Reece went the distance striking out four scattering 10 hits. 

Christian Garcia came on in relief  in the fourth for starter Billy McDonough as he struck out seven in 3.2 innings pitch.  However McDonough scored three times and produced an RBI for the Saints who improved to 24-4.  Dale Long went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

For Potsdam, Chris Reece finished going 3 for 4 with John Coleman and Ryan Arno providing two hits.  David Smith also doubled for the Stoners.
