Canton and SLC Softball Advance To State Tournament

CLASS B SOFTBALL FINAL

The Golden Bears return to the State Tournament with a shut out win at SUNY Potsdam.

The game wining run was driven home by PEPSI PLAYER OF THE GAME Kacie Wentworth who gournd out to second scoring Sam Brown from third.  Wentworth in the circle kept the powerful Shamrocks off balance in a five hit shut out.  In the fourth Brittany Taillon singled ina run and scored on an error.  The Bears capped off their scoring with one in the fifth and two more in the sixth as Sam Corbitt singled in a run late in the game.

SUBWAY SUB OF THE GAME Paige Larue and Sam Brown scored twice as Wentworth struck out eight and walked no one.  For the Shamrocks Krista Oakes struck out six and walked two and produced two singles.

Canton next faces the winner of Mechanicville (2) and Ausable Valley (7) on Wednesday from SUNY Potsdam as the Bears earn a bye into the Class B Quarterfinals..

CLASS C SOFTBALL FINAL

ST. LAWRENCE CENTRAL 3, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 0

Despite defensive jems by Norwood-Norfolk, the Larries pull out a Class C title with solid hits and pitching.

SLC managed to score the go ahead and insurance run in the first as SUBWAY SUB OF THE GAME Amanda Locke singled in Elise Roy and Shelby McGraw after both reached on hits.  Starting in the third the Larries ended their inings with double plays as Norwood-Norfolk worked out a 6-3-5 double in the third and fifth, a 4-5 line out double play in the fourth, and 5-3 DP in the sixth.

But the Flyers never able to answer with the bat as PEPSI PLAYER OF THE GAME Sara Thayer struck out 10 in a two hit shut out.  Locke and Roy both singled and doubled with Locke driving in all the runs. 

For the Flyers, Jessica Harey and Alex Stevenson each produced hits.  The Larries next face Ticonderoga at Plattsburgh State Monday in the first round of the NYS Tournament.
