99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR MONDAY, 5/26/09

THREE DEAD IN CANTON, DOUBLE HOMICIDE-SUICIDE LIKELY--St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Investigators responded about 3:20 Monday afternoon to 20 Jingleville Road, after 44-year-old Marianne Eschmann of Law Lane reported she found her mother, 68-year-old Lane Eschmann and her grandmother, 94-year-old Maria Kitzmeuller dead. Investigators arrived and found 73-year-old Wilfried Eschmann of that address inside a barn, dead inside a vehicle. All three had wounds from a 22-caliber long gun. It is believed Wilfried Eschmann shot the other two and then killed himself; the investigation continues pending autopsy results. No suspects are being sought at this time.

MEMORIAL DAY 2009-NORWOOD--Honored Monday in the Norwood observances was World War II pilot Virgil Trombley, who saved his crew and himself in France. Also recognized were a host of community groups and volunteer Bob Haggett for setting up hundreds of American Flags around the Village.

SUNY CANTON STEEL BRIDGE TEAM #1--The team took first place honors in national competition this past weekend in Las Vegas. The team constructed its bridge in 3:01, winning by less than one second and by less than one pound in weight.

GILLIBRAND SAYS HEALTH CARE JOBS HOLD PROMISE FOR NORTH COUNTRY--US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said during an economic forum in Massena Sunday funding for rural health care information technology in the stimulus package, and the desire by the Obama administration for universal health insurance has the potential to generate many high-paying jobs in the near future, especially in unserved and underserved areas like the North Country.
