99 NEWS FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 24TH, 2009 CRUMB FAMILY DONATES WORLD WAR 2 LETTERS, DOCUMENTS, PHOTOS, RECORDS TO SUNY POTSDAM LIBRARY--Frederick Crumb, for whom the Library at the college is named, was President from 1946-1967. Son Peter Crumb told 99 News Thursday his father's war experience setting up and rebuilding schools prepared him well for handling unprcedented change on the campus over his 20-plus years as President. Crumb was hired to be the 'turnaround' leader; the Potsdam campus would have been closed had he not led a period of expansion and growth. He also changed the way SUNY instructors taught, moving away from workbooks prescribed by Albany into academic freedom enjoyed today. The Library, Crumb's pet project was completed a few months after his passing at the age of 58 in 1967. The building was dedicated to him many years later.
