The Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse has announced Bishop Robert Joseph Cunningham, Ogdensburg bishop since 2004, has been appointed by the Pope to assume the Syracuse post in May. Cunningham will take over from Bishop James Moynihan, who notified the Pope of his retirement on his 75th birthday last June, and has continued to serve through the transition. Cunningham came to Ogdensburg from Buffalo, where he was Administrator of the Diocese.
