RETIRED PHCS SUPERINTENDENT TO HOLD INTERIM POST--Jay Kilcoyne was hired by the Parishville-Hopkinton Board of Education Monday to replace Tom Burns when Burns becomes Superintendent of St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES later this year. He will be paid 450 dollars a day for a period of no more than six months. Kilcoyne retired from the job in 2005, and was releaced at the time by Burns.

MASSENA WOMAN CHARGED WITH FELONY ASSAULT FOR BEATING--State Police in Massena say 48-year-old Cheryl Chavez of Park Avenue allegedly struck another woman numerous times about the head Saturday with a wooden club. Chavez was charged with Second Degree Assault, arraigned and jailed on 10-thousand dollars cash bail or 20-thousand dollars bail bond.

LOCAL SHERIFFS DIFFER ON DRUG LAW REFORM--St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells and Oswego County Sheriff Moe Todd issued a joint release Monday saying repealing 1970's-era drug penalties encourages dealing and trafficking, especially in the current economy when drug money is easy. Jefferson County Sheriff John Burns says he supports reform, with treatment.
