MAPLE UPDATE:BEST SEASON IN YEARS--Hugh Newton of Hannawa Falls, President of the St. Lawrence County Maple Producers' Association says an early thaw to start the tapping season and continued daytime warmth has brougt many days of excellent sap flow. He says ideal conditions are lows in the 28-degree range, and highs in the 40's.
NINE ARRESTS MADE IN OGDENSBURG NARCOTICS BUST--Oxycontin, cocaine, and morphine were among the substances seized in a sweep of the City Monday, the result of a long-term investigation into narcotics trafficking. Detectives say more arrests are pending.
POTSDAM MAN JAILED ON FELONY DOMESTIC-RELATED CHARGE--Village Police went to Riverside Drive Monday to a report of an incident in progress. The found 26-year-old Edward Wojewodzic to be on the premises in violation of a protection order. He was charged with First Degree Criminal Contempt. He allegedly refused to cooperate and was charged with Resisting Arrest. Wojewodzic was arraigned and jailed on 10-thousand dollars cash bail or 20-thousand dollars bail bond.
TWO ARRESTS MADE IN PERCH-POACHING PROBE--State DEC officers arrested 30-year-old Gabriel Szfranski of Ogdensburg and 35-year-old Michael Jerome, Jr. of Lisbon Sunday, after they were caught at the Lisbon Beach Boat Launch with an alleged 463 perch--more than 350 over the State creel limit of 50 a day, each. Both men were released on tickets to appear in Lisbon Town Court.
