ALCOHOL, SPEED POSSIBLE FACTORS IN FATAL CANTON CRASH--Sheriff's Detectives say 27-year-old Darren Ames drove off Potter Road about 6:50 Sunday morning and crashed into a large rock. He was declared dead at the scene; the accident is still under investigation.

CANTON TEACHER SUSPENDED FOR ALLEGEDLY INAPPROPRIATE TEXTING--The Advance News of Ogdensburg reports 37-year-old Paul Bevins, and English teacher and play advisor at Canton Central, has been suspended, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing. School officials did not comment, citing policy on personnel matters. Sources told the Advance Bevins allegedly sent inappropriate messages to at least one student.

POTSDAM SHELTER CELEBRATION NOON TUESDAY--Officials from the web site "ZooToo" will be on hand to look at the Animal Shelter on Madrid Avenue, after landing at the Ogdensburg International Airport at 11am. A full-scale celebration is planned. Potsdam made it into the top 20 in the web site's "Million Dollar Makeover" contest.

POTSDAM SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT SAYS 'SCHOOL TO WATCH' EVALUATION INFORMATIVE--Ann Carvill says one criticism state evaluators viewed as a negative, that the school is 'light on administration,' is a positive in her view because of the quality of the staff. The "Schools To Watch" program highlights the most effective middle-level institutions in the state.
