3/13/09--SPECIAL: PARISHVILLE HONORS SCOTT KOEN

SCOTT KOEN HONORED IN SCHOOL ASSEMBLY--Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Auditorium was packed this morning as the Town of Parishville, The Parishville Volunteer Fire Department, AMVETS, and the school honored Parishville native Scott Koen, who piloted a rescue boat on the Hudson River January 15th, after US Airways Flight 1549 crashed.  Koen rescued several passengers and helped to rescue many more, and also helped pick up debris.  Koen was honored last month with the highest civilian honor from the US Coast Guard.  He told the audience 'There was a lot of Parishville there that day," that there are skills taught from growing up in a small town you don't realize you have until after you go out into the world.'  Koen is a 1977 graduate of Potsdam Central, but spent most of his childhood in Parishville.  He was the long-time director of the USS Intrepid Museum in New York City before going into the salvage business.  He bought the boat he used in the rescue on E-Bay.
