99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR THURSDAY, 3/12/09 IVY RIDGE TO CLOSE--Souces told the Ogdensburg Journal the behavior modification school for youths at risk housed in the former Mater Dei College will be shut down, with the students transported to a southern location. The controversial boarding school had been plaged with disciplinary issues and conflicts with the State Education Department. SUNY POTSDAM OFFICIAL SAYS STUDENTS WHO DON'T BINGE DRINK ARE UNNOTICED--Chip Morris, the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards at SUNY Potsdam told an audience at Clarkson last night only about 1-thousand out of the approximately 7-thousand college students in the Potsdam area binge drink, but the perception is that loads of students are binge drinking, all the time. The comment was part of a panel discussion on the 'Amethyst Initiative,' a move to open up dialogue toward reducing the drinking age. CORNING TO GET BIG PROJECT, BUT NO JOB GAIN--The Canton Corning facility will make the secondary mirror for the large Synoptic Survey Telescope, a project coordinated by 16 universities and labs.
