POTSDAM TRUSTEES CLARIFY POSITION ON EMPIRE ZONE--The Board voted unanimously Monday to approve a resolution sponsored by Trustee Ruth Garner protesting the proposed requirement all Zone business leave the program, and apply for re-certification. That would require all Zone businesses to have a cost-benefit ratio of 20:1 to receive benefits, something many Potsdam businesses in the zone do not do.
BRASHER HOME INVASION SUSPECTS APPEAR IN COURT; BAIL DENIED--22-year-old Matthew Allen and 25-year-old Vincent Enslow, both of Route 56 Norfolk appeared in Brasher Town Court Tuesday night on multiple felony counts alleging they entered a residence wielding baseball bats, and demanded money from the occupants, then bat their two dogs. Both were sent back to jail without bail.
SCOZZAFAVA:MAKE STIMULUS LAST--GOP Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava said in an Albany interview last week the long-term benefits of the Federal Stimulus package are employment and reducing future tax hikes. New York is poised to receive nearly 25 billion dollars.
LIBRARIES GET GRANTS--Five local libraries are getting money from the State for projects; the biggest winner was Waddington Hepburn Library; 159-thousand dollars for significant upgrades and renovations. Potsdam Public Library will receive 23-thousand for a restroom project.
