DIPLOMAT SAYS CLARKSON STUDENTS WILL BE SAFE IN SLOVENIA--Tomasz Kuntselj, the Slovenian Ambassador to Canada, told a group of Clarkson University students preparing for a field experience in his country later this year that the former Yugoslavian state has always been more stable than the rest of the region, although crime has gone up in its major cities, mostly related to drugs.

CLARKSON ALUMNI GYM TO GET ENERGY-EFFICIENCY FACELIFT--The half-century old facility on the campus, which has seen little to no renovation work since it was built, will receive new doors and windows as the result of a 150-thousand-dollar allotment from New York's portion of Federal Petroleum Overcharge funds. Senator Joe Griffo was on campus yesterday for the announcement. ALSO AT CLARKSON FRIDAY--President Tony Collins, who is also Chair of the Seaway Private Equity Corporation Board, made an announcement not directly related to the University that Fused Solutions, the former development and customer call center wing of Slic.com, has opened an emergency backup facility in Utica using software developed by a Fused Solutions spin-off, Spice CSM. Fused Solutions employment growth at the Potsdam headquarters has doubled within a year.

AHAVA CHEESE PLANT SUSPENDS OPERATIONS, PRODUCT CONTAMINATED--The State Ag and Markets Department found coliform bacteria and non-food-grade oil in samples of the kosher cheese. 25-thousand pounds has been determined unfit for consumption; the rest of the stock is held until further testing is complete.

MASSENA ECO-PRODUCE COMPANY PURCHASED BY TEXAS BIO-FUEL COMPANY--Angel Eyes Produce, which operates an indoor, organic produce operation in Massena, has been purchased by Sustainable Power Corp, which makes biofuels from garbage and other organic waste. Angel Eyes will get fertilizer and energy from Sustainable.

FIRE IN PIERREPONT LEAVES SIX PEOPLE HOMELESS--Hannawa Falls firefighters and mutual aid were called about 2am to 25 Hadley Road, the residence of Kelly Sharlow and 5 other persons. One person was overcome by smoke. The house was a rental property. A cause has yet to be found.
