99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR MONDAY, 2/9/09

LOUISVILLE CRASH FATAL FOR ONTARIO WOMAN--State Police in Massena say 57-year-old Lise Miner of Hammond, Ontario received fatal injuries when the car she was driving was struck head-on by an oncoming vehicle after she veered into the south-bound lane of Route 56. The driver of the other car, 34-year-old Erin Loope of Colton received a neck fracture and was transferred from Massena Memorial Hospital to Fletcher-Allen in Burlington. Loope was treated and released. No tickets issued.

POTSDAM VEHICLE THEFT CASE NETS ARREST--Village Police and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department worked together to arrest 18-year-old James Mays of Congers, NY early Sunday morning. Deputies spotted a vehicle off the pavement on Route 56; Mays was allegedly driving drunk and the vehicle was reported stolen from a location in the Village. There allegedly were stolen items in the vehicle. Mays was charged with a felony count of Grand Larceny and several other counts and released on court appearance tickets.

GRIFFO DOUBTS BUDGET WILL BE ON TIME--State Senator Joseph Griffo says he believes the Legislature will not pass the budget by the March 1st deadline laid out by the Governor, and might not pass it by the Constitutionally-mandated deadline of April 1st. Griffo says 'leadership's not serious about doing its job.'

MOBILE HOME DESTROYED BY CANTON FIRE--The residece of Brandy Sachse on County Route 25 was declared a total loss Sunday morning. The cause is still under investigation.

POTSDAM CAMPUS WINS BOTH UUP SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR--United University Professions at SUNY Potsdam said last week Potsdam won both statewide scholarships, after decades of not winning any scholarships at all. We interviewed one of the winners, Seth Defayette of Plattsburgh, a French/Anthropology double major with a GPA of 3.73.
