CPH CEO ADDRESSES TAX QUESTIONS--David Acker of Canton-Potsdam Hospital told the public and the Potsdam Village Planning Board Thursday the Hospital will try to pay taxes on neighborhood properties it takes over for expansion. Concomitantly, Acker says the Hospital should not be taxed for buildings used for health care, specifically.

ROUTE 11 CHOSEN FOR ECONOMIC, NOT TRAVEL REASONS FOR ROOFTOP HIGHWAY--SLU Vice President Kathy Mullaney, involved with the North Country Transportation Study that determied Route 11 as the preferred travel corridor for a four-lane, interstate highway through the Northern Tier says no other route has the economic potential that Route 11 has. She says the North Country situation is unique because travel ease is usually the number one consideration.

BRASHER WOMAN LOSES HOME TO FIRE--Trucks rolled to 1026 Maple Ridge Road about 5:45pm Friday. The residence of Marlene Hewlett was destroyed, the loss is not insured. Nobody was hurt. Firefighters braved temperatures well below zero.

NORFOLK TEEN DAMAGES MOTHER'S PROPERTY, JAILED--Norfolk-based State Police arrested 16-year-old Brandon Berry Friday on a misdemeanor criminal mischief count alleging he damaged property at the residence. Berry was arraigned and jailed on 1-thousand dollars cash bail or 15-hundred dollars bond.

AKWESASNE MURDER SUSPECT CHARGED WITH SECOND MURDER COUNT--Richard Oakes, 38; accused of killing Thomas Hathaway of Helena Road and burning down his residence late last year, was charged this week with a second murder count. Oakes was sent back to Franklin County Jail without bail until a hearing on the new charge.

40 POUNDS OF POT FOUND IN FORT COVINGTON, DRIVER JAILED--Malone-based State Police say the US Border Patrol found a stash of marijuana in the vehicle of 31-year-old Adam Carroll on US Route 11 in the Town Thursday. Carroll is from Lynn, MA. He was arraigned on a felony, first degree possession count and jailed on 10-thousand dollars cash bail or 20-thousand dollars bond.
