2009-01-12--Massena Armed Robbery, four suspects arrested

Four arrests were made over the weekend by Massena police after a drug-related robbery.

Police report a call about 2:50 Saturday morning of a group of people screaming and throwing snowballs in the Beach Street neighborhood.  The investigation revealed more details.  32-year-old Jermaine Campbell of Laurelton, New York was enlisted to recover a debt owed by the victim.  26-year-old Dawn Bero of Racquette point road in Roosevelttown allegedly took Campbell to the victim’s residence on Beach Street.  Her 24-year-old sister Shawna Bero of the same address, and a 14-year-old boy were also allegedly in the vehicle.  The boy was involved because he reportedly knew the victim’s address.  Campbell allegedly kicked in the front door of the victim’s residence, displayed what appeared to be a handgun and took cash, running from the scene on foot.   Campbell was caught with the help of tracking dogs, and was pulled over by State Police on motor vehicle counts about 4:40 Saturday morning on State Route 131 in Louisville.  The alleged handgun turned out to be a b-b gun.

Campbell was charged with felony counts of first degree robbery and second degree burglary.  Dawn Bero was charged with second degree burglary and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.  Shawna Bero was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.  Campbell was arraigned and remanded to St. Lawrence County jail on 20-thousand dollars cash bail or 40-thousand dollars bail bond.  Neither of the bero sisters was jailed.

Police made the fourth arrest related to the Beach Street robbery on Sunday.  33-year-old John Barto of Willard Road in Louisville was charged with third degree criminal solicitation and endangering the welfare of a child.  Details about his alleged involvement with the robbery were not available.  Barto was arraigned and jailed on 10-thousand dollars cash bail or 20-thousand dollars bail bond.
