2009-01-09--Canton Seacomm Branch Armed Robbery |
|
Canton Police Chief Alan Mulkin told 99 News an armed suspect described as a white male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with thin build, possibly in his early 40's wearing blue jeans and a gray hoodie, entered the East Main Street branch of Seacomm Federal Credit Union brandishing what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun about 6 Friday evening. Employees were ordered into the vault; money was placed in a duffel-type bag and the suspect fled in a northeasterly direction toward the P & C parking lot. Nobody was hurt. Police with the help of several other law enforcement agencies set up roadblocks for a time and some vehicles were searched; tracks in the snow were traced. No suspect has yet been found. Seacomm President and CEO Scott Wilson said with thankfulness no employees were hurt, that the Canton branch will be closed on Saturday as the investigation continues; members may do their business at the Potsdam branch or online. This is the second robbery at Seacomm in Canton in a little over two years; the branch was robbed in December of 2006 and those suspects have yet to be caught. Anyone with information about the Friday night incident is asked to contact Canton Police immediately at 386-4561.
