99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR JANUARY 1, 2009

SLU SUPPORTS AMP--The Alliance for Municipal Power, the group seeking State authority designation in its effort to form a public utility apart from National Grid, was recently endorsed by the St. Lawrence University Board of Trustees.  The University has a long history of supporting alternative energy and sustainability efforts.

THREE BUSTED FOR POT IN HAMMOND--Sheriff's Deputies say a vehicle containing between 2 and 8 ounces of marijuana was pulled over on Route 37 early yesterday morning.  22-year-old Irving Cook of Hogansburg, 19-year-old Shayleen Thompson of Hogansburg, and 26-year-old Jessica Laborgne of Irving, NY were all charged with misdemeanor fourth degree possession.  All were arraigned and jailed on 25-hundred dollars bail each; they posted bail and were released until court dates later this month.  

POLICE REPORT LITTLE TO NO NEW YEAR'S EVE MISCHIEF--Almost no police activity with the exception of a small handful of DWI's 

COLTON WINTERFEST PROCEEDS TO ASSIST FOOD PANTRY THIS YEAR--Judy Fuhr, Treasurer and a member of the Winterfest Committee told us the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry is in desperate need for re-stocking because of inacreased need resulting from the current economy.  Proceeds after expenses normally go toward beautification projects.  Thousands of people are drawn to Colton for Winterfest each year, food baskets will be placed in high-traffic locations for people to donate non-perishable items.  Non-perishable food items will be the 'admission price' for the kick-off concert Friday night, January 23rd.
