POTSDAM TOWN SUPERVISOR SKEPTICAL OF COUNTYWIDE ASSESSING IDEA--Marie Regan told the Town Council Tuesday a drawback of consolidating assessment at the county level is the size of the county and the number of parcels that would have to be accounted for. Consolidation of services like assessing has been suggested by a state commission.

29 PEOPLE BUSTED IN FEDERAL DRUG SWEEP, 5 LOCALS--Federal prosecutors said yesterday agents have busted up a regional marijuana-smuggling ring that transported its cargo across the US-Canadian border through Akwesasne and distributed pot as far away as Philadephia, PA. Agents seized over 350-thousand dollars in cash and over a hundred pounds of pot, ten vehicles and five guns. Five Akwesasne residents were arrested in the sweep...43-year-old Darien Gabriel-Fleurisma, 47-year-old Phillip Lauzon, 21-year-old Brittany Skidders, 44-year-old Mark Boots, and 50-year-old Rich ard Ransom.

"QUIET WATERS' DISCUSSIONS BRING NO RECOMMENDATIONS, YET--Working groups of the Adtrondack Park Agency have yet to report out results of discussions on which rivers, lakes, and streams it may designate 'quiet,' banning motorized access. Sportsmen are concerned about reduced assess, while environmentalists are concerned about the lack of open space without noise and-or pollution from motors.
